ABOUT JSC
About Us
The Kogi State Judiciary stands as the third arm of government, constitutionally empowered to interpret laws, uphold justice, and protect the rights of citizens in line with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). Established in 1991 following the creation of Kogi State from the former Benue and Kwara States, the Judiciary has since grown into a robust and dynamic institution dedicated to fairness, transparency, and the rule of law.
From inception, the Judiciary has pursued a clear mandate — to provide equal access to justice for all, deliver timely and fair judgments, and adopt global best practices in judicial administration. Headquartered on Hassan Usman Katsina Way, Lokoja, the institution began with the High Court of Justice and the Sharia Court of Appeal, later expanding to include the Customary Court of Appeal. Today, the Kogi State Judiciary oversees hundreds of courts across the state, supported by an extensive network of Magistrates’ Courts, Area Courts, and specialized divisions.
